St Anthony High School Monte de Guirim defeated Holy Cross High
School Bastora 7 – 1 in an exciting final of the Nehru Hockey tournament for
Under-17 girls of Directorate of Sports & Young Affairs at Peddem ground
yesterday.
Riddhi Hadfadkar scored a hat-trick for St Anthony High
School Monte Guirim, while Krislyn Menezes and Riddhi Shejwadkar scored 2 goals
apiece, whereas Sherya found the net for Bastora.
St Anthony Monte de Guirim will now represent the state at
the Nehru Hockey Tournament in Delhi.
Besides the girl’s Under-17 team, the boys of the same
school are Under-15 champions in the Nehru hockey and will also make the trip
to Delhi.
The third school from Goa which will make the trip to Delhi
on account of their hockey achievement will be Janata High School Mapusa the
boys Under-17 winners.
In the earlier matches, Monte de Guirim coasted defeated
Shri Bhumika Higher Secondary School 7-0 to book a place in the final.
St Anthony High School Monte Guirim netted 4 goals through
Riddhi Hadfadkar, while Krislyn Menezes, Riddhi Shejwadkar, Deantha Pacheco
scored a goal each, while in the quarterfinals they won trounced Holy Cross
High School Siolim 25-0.
On the other hand, the Bastora school walked their way into
the final after their opponents Damodar English High School Gudi Paroda failed
to turn up for the match. in the opening round match, Holy Cross HS bastora
trounced St Jude High School Betalbatim 4-0.
The winners struck in the 8th and 26th minutes
with goals from Rujuta Mukbhar and Neha Karapurkar.
Dimple Dichholkar made it 3-0 in the second half and with
four minutes left for the final whistle Varshitha Shetty made it 4-0.
Earlier in the other quarter-final, the clash between
two Sattari Taluka institutions, a lot was at stake for the girls of both the
teams, it was Higher Secondary girls which won.
The school girls, trained by Father George Nandiyala of the
Pilar Fathers, gave their much older counterparts a run for the money, but in
the ultimate analysis the super body power and the age difference finally
counted in the ultimate analysis.
For the records most of the Honda HS girls who took the
field were eight and sixth standard students compared to their opponents who
are now studying in the Higher Secondary section.
Parye opened the scoring in the 16th minute
with Mayusha Gawas getting her name on the scorers list with a field goal.
Thereafter Tanui Gawas scored a brace in the 33rd and 50th minute
to complete the score line.
In the other quarter-final, Damodar English HS defeated
Immaculate Heart of Mary High School, Goa Velha 2-1 in the tie breaker.
